This article is continue of our previous summary of 'Parrot In The Cage' By Lekhanath Paudyal. If you have just landed in this article then first of all you should visit this article which will include from stanza 1 to stanza 7 summary.

Stanza 8 :

The thought that his parents are probably missing him and crying for him, watching for him to come back desperately saddens the parrot. The close bond that he has with his old parents has now been separated by fate.

Stanza 9 :

His life was once surrounded by freedom and affection from peers and relatives but now all he sees is enemies and lies. He has no one to rely on, No one to trust. He has no one to express his pain. He is confused about what he is supposed to do and who he is supposed to trust.

Stanza 10 :

In the past, the sky was his playground for him and flight (group of birds). It was a source of pleasure for them. They laughed and danced in the sky but now he has to stay in this trapped cage with no source of happiness at all.

Stanza 11 :

He has tried to break the cage and fly away but its beak is now blunt and his wings and feet are cramped in this small cage and he feels a sense of defeat. He is tired and has no idea of what he is supposed to do in this small constricted cage all his life.

Stanza 12 :

The cramping gets cold sometimes and hot sometimes. All he can do is play along the whims of his master and prattle (speak on unimportant matters) rapidly and chatter and just like how little boys play according to their whims which are extremely changeable, his fate has also changed in a perverse manner (opposite to expected way).

Stanza 13 :

When he remembers his fate, he acts insane. He cries sometimes and sometimes he laughs. He sleeps then he wakes up. Then he starts weeping thinking about his relatives' family. He misses his freedom and tears down and his heart weeps as all his efforts to break free of this cage has gone to vein.

Stanza 14 :

He gets very anxious in this cage like waves striking on rocks and in a shocked and confused manner he looks at the sky cause in the past he used to fly freely navigating the blues but now that is only a dream. He expresses how he can neither live nor die as he cant die until death calls for him. He expresses how he would rather die than to suffer in this cage.

Stanza 15 :

Even when caged he’s not fed properly. All he gets is some third class rice and leftovers that are such a small amount that his stomach remains half empty. Even when he’s thirsty all that he can do is look at the pot as the food and water he gets depends on the kindness of his masters, not his desire and he blames his destiny for this.

Stanza 16 :

Even with his throat dry, he has to chatter. He is forced to talk and entertain the humans which he hates doing but if he refuses to do soo, he is threatened with a brandishing (waving) cane. The parrot that once loved to talk is now compelled and forced to speak with a dry throat.

Stanza 17 :

People come to him asking him to speak for their own entertainment. All they do is make fun of him, but no one understands his suffering. Someone calls him an ass’s colt. Someone is amused by how witty he is and someone says that he is displeased but on one really cares about his true feelings.

Stanza 18 :

No one knows nor cares about what kind of creature he is, where he came from, what he eats or how he ended up in this cage, so, he has no other option than to drown in his own sorrow and suffering within him.

Stanza 19 :

He is forced to respond to brandishing sticks, to entertain them even if he doesn’t want to. He asks God why he is making him live life like this and even if he is destined to live in a cage, why is this life so constricted and restricted, why does he have to act like a fool pet to these cruel people.

Stanza 20 :

He asks God for divine guidance. He asks him why did he provide him the ability of speech and reasoning only to take his pride away from him and cage him like this. He also asks God why he gave humans the power to control as they are using their gifts to cause him suffering for mere entertainment through scolds and threats.

Stanza 21 :

He wonders why humans indulge in such sinful actions when they have so many other ways to entertain themselves. He begs god to help him free of this cage and this suffering and asks him for mercy.

Stanza 22 :

He calls the human race hostile (not friendly/enemies) because humans exploit others for their own benefits and entertainment. Humans treat other creatures as their hostels and control them and exploit them till their breath is taken away. Humans are cruel, selfish and sinful.

Stanza 23 :

The poet wishes to die rather than to live like this under human control. Humans left him no other option but to wait for death to call him to be set free from this cage and from these sinful humans and wishes that he nor any other creator be born as parrot until a single human is alive on earth.

(This is main gist of poem)
