The Lunatic Poem Summary
Stanza 1 :
In the first stanza, the poet accepts his lunacy and madness. He accepts the identity that people have given him. He also presents a slight satire on his critics who consider him to be abnormal.

Stanza 2 :
In the second stanza, the poet expresses how he is different than others because of his abnormal behavior and unusual habits. He can see sound, hear pictures and taste smells. He can touch things that the world doesn't believe it exists. He is so imaginative that he can see flowers in stones. He sees enchantresses smiling at him from heaven. He can communicate with birds and flowers in a language that cannot be heard and understood by others. He understands their suffering and the language comes naturally to him like how the water comes in waves to Ganga's Banks.

Stanza 3 :
In the 3rd stanza, the sensitivity and his tender heart are reflected. He shows how different he is from the people who call him lunatic. He calls them clever as they rely on their five senses where as he says that he operates on his 6th sense that is in his heart. His 6th sense provide him with imagination and dreams which are very meaningful to him. He sees beautiful women like Helen and Padmini in roses. He is a poet full of emotions that can be interpreted in any way. His world is abstract (existing in thoughts), not concrete. He values humanity, he says that the world value materialistic substances like gold and diamonds and expresses that he enjoy his inebriation with all such contrast. He says he has a loose vein in his head making him insane.

Stanza 4 :
The 4th stanza tells how the poet's hypersensitivity led people to have a wrong impression of him. He was called crazy when he basked in the first white heat of the astral light during the frigid winter month. They called him mad for being sad of the death of people because of poverty. They called him possessed when he stared blankly for 7 days after coming from the 'Ghats'. They called him irrational when felt enlightened by Buddha's philosophy's. He feels happy listening to cuckoo's song and feels uncomfortable by extreme silence. He sings with the storm and when he leapt to feet filled with pain of destruction, the wise people declared him crazy and sent him to Ranchi. He is tested if he is mad by pinching his skin, even his friends considered him crazy. So, he gladly accepts that he is just insane.

Stanza 5 :
The 5th stanza deals with the revolt of the poet. He believes that the wine that aristo casts drink is nothing more than the blood of poor people. Prostitutes are no better than corpse because of lack of compassion, respect and affection people have for them. Kings and Emperors are no better than the poor because of their high ambitions. He also publicly declared Alexander the great to be purely evil or wrong person. He also considered heaven of others as hell for him, and the gold for others is just a mere iron for him. Where the others consider themselves clever he thinks of them as a fool. He thinks of clever pandits as fools and common people to be far better than the highly learned ones. He doesn't value the things that the rest of the world deems important. The poet considers himself as moonstruck.

Stanza 6 :
The 6th stanza shows the aggression of the poet. The poet finds the blind people's pioneer. He considers that the poet is being ruled by fools who only think of their self. He considers the defeated one the true victor who have won in spite of loosing. The fools who don't know how to act properly are ruling were as the one who are meant to rule are being sidelined. Penance (Remorse for past conduct) and spiritual has disappeared from society because of which he doesn't consider people who fail to be failures.
Stanza 7 :
The 7th stanza shows the rebel in the poet who challenges people who invade others right and freedom . He considers the political leaders as prostitutes who easily gets sold for money. They pollute innocent peoples ears with false lies and takes advantage of them. Black money is used to deprive people of their rights and even the media spreads false news. He expresses his anger towards these corrupted behavior of these people who feed on the innocence of common people. It angers him to a point that his hair stands stiff like the medusas snake. When tigers (powerful people) feed on deer (innocent people) it anger him. He expresses that his teeth clenches when human treat other humans as animals. The inhumane behavior of humans burns his brain like a forest fire and he becomes cruel kike the child of tempest explosion of volcano and because of this he becomes crazy, a lunatic.
